The flash video comes from a report published by the New England Journal of Medicine. It indicates that our social contact influences our tendency to obesity. In an attempt for science to understand why we are seeing such a rapid rate of increase in the obesity rates this is yet another way to look at the data. The animation comes from over 32 years of data done by the “Framingham Heart Survey”.
I put it up here to continue with questions on how we are dealing with obesity in America. I want to introduce various ways that science and medicine are taking a look at the problem. In hope that it will provoke individual thought and questions. Having just come out of the holidays do you think that family and friends influence what and how much you eat? Is who you hang out with explain that belly that is hanging out of you? What do you think? How should the powers that run stuff be looking at this issue?
I know the local branch of a well know financial institution just offered their obese employees free weight loss surgery. Is this the direction of health care in America? Step right up and get your free surgery while we ignore the food industry and other factors effecting America’s diet. Or do we work at the level of one on one answers and start breaking the “chains of obesity” linking each of us to the epidemic?
